I am Renee Cassuto, an experienced occupational therapist dedicated to supporting young children in reaching their fullest potential. With years of school-based occupational therapy experience across multiple states, I bring a broad perspective on how to meet children’s unique needs in educational and community settings.

In addition to hands-on clinical work, I’ve contributed to the advancement of our field through research funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), where I helped develop innovative occupational therapy screening tools designed to improve early identification of needs.

At Guiding Oak Pediatric Therapy, I provide hands-on pediatric occupational therapy services right on-site — making it convenient for schools and families while creating a familiar, supportive environment for children.  I proudly serve Mendham, NJ and surrounding towns, partnering with local schools and families to deliver practical, evidence-based support that makes a real difference.

Whether it’s enhancing motor skills, building independence, or supporting sensory needs, I am passionate about partnering with schools and families to deliver practical, evidence-based support that truly makes a difference.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps children build the skills they need for everyday activities — like playing, writing, getting dressed, and doing schoolwork. An occupational therapist works with children to strengthen their motor skills, improve coordination, and become more confident and independent.

Common areas we support include attention, sensory processing, handwriting, fine and gross motor skills, and self-care tasks.

Screening and Evaluation

A screening is a brief check to see how a child is doing with important skills like movement, attention, and coordination. It helps identify if a child might need an evaluation.

An evaluation is a more detailed assessment where the observations, standardized assessments and more examine different areas such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, handwriting, and daily activities. This helps create a personalized plan to support the child’s development and success.

Child Counseling

Therapy

Individualized therapy is designed just for your child’s unique needs and strengths. It focuses on helping your child improve specific skills—like handwriting, coordination, attention, or self-care—in a way that fits their pace and interests.

By working one-on-one, the therapist can create fun and practical activities that build confidence and independence, so your child can succeed in all environments, especially at school and home.

Consultation

Consultation is a collaborative conversation where I work with parents, teachers, or caregivers to provide expert advice, strategies, and support to help a child succeed without direct therapy sessions.

How We Work

Collaborative, Convenient, and Child-Centered

Listen and learn

We begin by getting to know your child through thoughtful conversations and observations, we gather insights about your child’s strengths, challenges, and daily routines. We use data-driven and evidence-based assessments to gather information that helps us set clear goals and support measurable growth.

Collaborate

We partner closely with parents, caregivers, and educators. Together, we set meaningful goals and work as a team to support your child at home, at school, and in the community.

Individualized Plan

No two children are the same. We create a customized therapy plan designed to meet your child’s specific needs, whether it’s building motor skills, fostering independence, or supporting sensory development.

Engage, Empower, and Grow

Our play-based, evidence-driven sessions help children build confidence and develop new skills. We work closely with families, caregivers, and school teams to ensure consistent support across settings. Along the way, we provide regular updates, practical tips, and guidance so everyone feels informed and empowered. Together, we celebrate progress as your child grows and thrives.
